A lock is any device which prevents access or use by requiring special knowledge or equipment. Mechanical locks are mechanical devices which secure an opening by keeping a door closed until a release mechanism is activated; usually a lever, knob, key, or thumbturn.
There are several types of mechanical locks, but they all provide the same basic function - to secure a door. Typical uses and benefits of common types are listed below.
Tubular Locks: a bored lockset whose latch or bolt locking mechanism is contained in the component installed into the edge bore

Cylindrical Locks: a bored lockset whose latch or bolt locking mechanism is contained in the portion installed through the cross-bore
Cylindrical locks with levers usually require a spring cage to lift the lever and keep it horizontal. These spring cages lead to a bigger rose (circular, finished plate against the door) – typically around 3.5 inches in diameter. Knob designs do not require this extra spring force and these roses usually have a diameter around 2.5 inches.

When you see a Warning 80 or Warning 17 on a HandKey or a
HandPunch, it may mean that the lithium battery is low. The
first step is to try a warm boot on the reader to see if that help. If not
then try a cold boot but it will remove users data. If they both fail then you
may need to replace the lithium battery. A replacement battery can be
purchased at any electronics store. If after replacing the battery, the
Warning 80 does not clear, please contact Technical Product Support. Please
note you should never remove the lithium battery while powered up as it can
damage the main board.
